The Upstate Medical University Executive Committee

The Upstate Medical University Executive Committee (UEC) serves as the President's senior leadership body and provides high-level, cross-function representation of all aspects of the institution. The UEC meets weekly and provides decision-making and direction related to operations, policy, and capital allocations for the university system.Additionally, the UEC is ultimately responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of the institution's strategic planning process.

Danielle Laraque-Arena began as the seventh president of Upstate Medical University Jan. 14, 2016. She was the former Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and Vice-President of the Maimonides Infants and Children’s Hospital of Brooklyn and Professor of Pediatrics at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine (Investigator Track) and Yeshiva University.

At Maimonidies, Laraque-Arena led a team of nearly 100 faculty members with either primary care or secondary appointments in her department and another 230 faculty that serve in voluntary positions. Her accomplishments in her last five years included strengthening the teaching and research profile through the recruitment of new faculty, transforming the residency program and significantly increasing first attempt board pass rates and developing new ACGME fellowship programs.

Dr. Sachdeva works closely with clinical and academic leaders across the university to identify strategic priorities to achieve clinical integration by leveraging quality and outcomes science; support the development of big data strategy aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of Upstate’s education, research and clinical care missions. He is a former executive with the American Academy of Pediatrics and a faculty member at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Mr. Scott oversees the entire operation of Upstate University Hospital sites and has ultimate administrative responsibility for the Hospital and its ambulatory sites. Hospital COO, CAO CNO, CFO, Medical Director & Chief Quality Officer, the Senior Associate for Community Programming and Development and the Institutional Compliance Officer report directly to him.

Dr. Bogart is the Chairman of the SUNY Upstate Medical Department of Radiation Oncology and program director for the radiation oncology residency program. He is also responsible for the management of University Hill Radiation Oncology, a practice with multiple sites that is affiliated with Upstate Medical University.

Reports to the president and works collaboratively with the Deans on program development and academic infrastructure. Serves as the academic liaison between Upstate and SUNY Central Administration. Assists in the oversight of the Division of Student Affairs, the College of Medicine curriculum, Graduate Medical Education and Continuing Education, as well as the educational infrastructure in the College of Medicine.

Smith oversees Facilities and Planning, Physical Plant, Information Management and Technology and University Police, as well as serve on various internal and external committees. Additionally, Smith, who served previously as Upstate's assistant vice president for finance, will continue to oversee several other areas, including various state and Research Foundation finance functions, including accounting and budgeting, campus purchasing, accounts payable, contracts, payroll and property management.

Ms. Pezzi oversees the activities of the Foundation for Upstate, including the Alumni Association for the Colleges of Nursing and Health Professions. She is responsible for organizing and implementing multi-year, million dollar capital, annual and endowment campaigns, planned giving, corporate and foundation gift giving, fund management and special events.

Vice President of Operations and University Chief of Staff

Mr. Garcia oversees the President's Administrative Offices, the Health Sciences Library, the Government Relations Office, the Community Relations Office and Human Resources as well as a wide variety executive duties and special projects for the University. Mr. Garcia formerly served in similar capacities at the St. Lawrence Health System, Northeast Ohio Medical University and the U.S. Department of State, including serving as Chief of Staff to two assistant secretaries of state.

The Extended University Executive Committee

The Extended University Executive Committee (e-UEC) represents the scope of the entire institution. The group serves in an advisory capacity to the University Executive Committee and is responsible for the bi-directional communication of University business and initiatives amongst leadership and internal departments. Related to such, the e-UEC is highly involved in Upstate's strategic planning process. A core composition of e-UEC is established but can vary based upon strategic planning and management needs.

Ms. Alexander serves as Health Care Counsel for Upstate Medical University and is also the Manager of the Central New York Regional Office of the SUNY Office of General Counsel located at Upstate. Her previous work experience has included representing other SUNY campuses during the more than years she has been employed with SUNY. During the 12 years prior to her at SUNY, Ms. Alexander was a partner in a law firm with an expertise in the field of medical malpractice, representing clients in the State and Federal Court systems. She was also a Law Guardian for over 10 years, representing children in Family Courts in multiple counties in the Albany area.

Dr. White provides leadership to the dozen functions that make up the Division of Student Affairs. The offices in the Division collaborate to provide service and support to assist students in realizing their potential. Students First! is the guiding philosophy of Dr. White's work.

In addition to his faculty post, Dr Brenner is medical director of the Community Campus Emergency Department. He is serving his first term as Chair of the Faculty Council, which is the shared governance structure of the Upstate Faculty.

Dr. Davé is responsible for the clinical teaching experience of third and fourth year medical students assigned to Binghamton Campus. He recruits and oversees multiple specialists with full-time, part-time and voluntary faculty status. He is also the Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of UHS – Binghamton Based Health Care System.

Ms. Wagner is responsible for planning, implementation and management of information management technology throughout the university in support of the missions of patient care, education and research. She also oversees health information management and clinical engineering for the hospital.

Ms. Rokicki works within the President's Office of Strategic Affairs and is responsible for the development and management of the OUR Upstate - One University Road Map Strategic Plan. Renae additionally provides administrative coordination of institutional projects across the clinical, research, and academic missions of the University and is active in the community on behalf of Upstate Medical University.

Upstate University Health System Leadership

Upstate University Hospital has two campuses—the Downtown Campus, and four miles west of downtown Syracuse, its Community Campus. Hospital leadership oversees all aspects related to patient care at Upstate's hospitals and at its more than 80 specialty clinics. Upstate University Hospital's 17-county service area covers approximately one-third of New York State.
