What Can You Expect from Your Treatment?

We take a multidisciplinary team approach to your care. A lung physician (pulmonologist), in partnership with your primary care physician, will evaluate your particular situation. A certified asthma nurse educator will provide you with information regarding asthma and the medications you use through one-on-one teaching sessions. Group asthma education for your family or significant other will be offered throughout the year.

You are the key member of the team. Working together, you and your health care team will help you:

  • Recognize what triggers your asthma
  • Develop goals for controlling and treating your asthma
  • Learn how to prevent your asthma attacks
  • Recognize and avoid side effects from asthma medication
  • Sleep through the night without having asthma symptoms
  • Be active - participate in exercise and sports - without having asthma symptoms
  • Enjoy lungs that work well
  • Sustain your emotional health by thinking of yourself as a healthy, rather than sick, person
  • Encourage and accept the support of family and friends
  • Participate in ongoing education
  • Learn about and apply the latest scientific findings to understanding and treating your asthma
